Vintage Lace III(Irish Lace)

Vintage Lace III- Irish Crochet lace is truly an heirloom lace based upon varieties of crochet and tatting blended together to create an absolutely breathtaking machine created lace. When I was creating the lace in my research I was extremely impressed with the variety of the Irish crochet lace. History tells us that crochet began as a cottage industry in Ireland with a lace called Irish crochet or guipure lace. In the mid 1800's it became a large industry because of the need of the people to supplement their income due to the great potato famine of that time. It has been suggested that four Irish nuns who were trained in a French convent introduced crochet to Ireland. It was a common practice in that time for each person to become skilled in making one thing and one thing only, such as a leaf or a flower. Another person would then crochet the different motifs together using a background stitch. The methods of attaching the florets, or leaves to the crochet base were often held in great secret by the creators with the method passed down from mother to daughter only. No charts or records of the creativity were ever kept, it was all in the mind.

With that as my basis, I ventured to create Irish crochet lace. The lace panels are in the round with flowers which can either be attached after the item is put together or joined in the hoop. Instructions are provided for the dimensional look of Irish crochet. All the Vintage Lace 3 design are elements which can be used by themselves or put together to create large lace panels. The possibilities of the laces are numerous. All designs except one require the 4x4 hoop. The designs can only be purchased as a complete collection. I hope you will enjoy using these designs as much as I enjoyed creating them.
