Tambour Lace III (crochet lace)

Tambour lace in general came from the Orient where a round frame, or Tambour ( like a drum) was held between the knees and a type of muslin fabric was stretched over the tambour and the stitches were formed with needle and thread on the muslin. Tambour is made with a fine hook which pierces the fabric or net, picks up a thread from behind and draws the loop to the front. The next stitch repeats this process and the resulting stitch resembles a chain. It may often referred to as a chain stitch.

Tambour Lace III is based upon the similar process only the netting or fabric is eliminated. The stitches in shape of a chain intertwined together create freestanding laces which are first stitched upon a water soluble stabilizer. Washing away the stabilizer leaves these chain formations mimicking beautiful lace embroideries. The laces are delicate and resemble filet crochet. Tambour Lace III is a continuation from Tambour Lace II. The laces of each are complimentary to each other. The collection has twelve designs. Each design is delicate yet strong enough to withstand time and usage. I have always admired antique laces and heirloom work. Tambour III is my interpretation of combining the antique with a modern day twist.
