The Island Sampler

The Island Sampler designs mimic the Hawaiian quilt designs, with a modern day twist. The Hawaiian quilt designs often tell a story told by the quilter. History tells us that quilting was introduced to the Islands in the early 1800’s by the Missionaries. The “snowflake” effect of cutting out a design is used to create the pattern, which is appliqued onto the base fabric. The applique stitches usually resembled cross stitches or a variation of the buttonhole stitch, with quilting done in an echo method around the pattern. The Island Sampler blocks mimic the applique stitches, with a twist.
The Island Sampler is a collection of applique, trapunto and shadow work quilt blocks. The blocks are digitized in such a manner as to accommodate all three variations. There are twelve (12) quilt blocks which can be used for all three variations. The collection also has four (4) edge blocks, created to enhance the quilt blocks, or to use them on their own.
The designs come in two sizes. Designs stitched out using the 5x7 hoop create almost a 10” quilt block. The designs stitched out using the 8x8 hoop create almost a 14” quilt block. Detailed instructions for applique, joining the blocks and a quilt as you go method are enclosed in the documentation. The collection is extremely versatile and is sure to bring joy from your creativities. Designs can be purchased individually or as a collection.
