On this page I will show you how to create a bowl or plate using the Gift 2004 design.

By now if you have stitched out the panels of the lace you will notice that the bottom part of the panel is a cross hatch with floral motifs at the top. The cross hatch part of the panel has a specialty created into it.

Holding the sides of a panel, pull the cross hatch part and you will notice that it has a stretch to it. Lace with elasticity! Interesting concept. Using this elasticity we can shape the bowl even further into making a plate rather than a bowl. This is for those of us who do not like to use same color bobbin as the top thread. As we want to showcase the bowl/plate the back side is folded down so it is not visible.

Notice the plate like bowl at top. As you can see the picture above the folding back of the top part of the lace panel hides the backside of the lace panel yet it creates a different look.

Join your panels together as shown previously in the sewing section. Now spray the lace panels slightly and pull on the cross hatch part of the laces to stretch them. You will notice that the lace will pull back to its original shape. While you are pulling on the cross hatch use a hair dryer to quickly dry the lace panel so it will retain the shape of the bulged out bowl (see picture above). Keep doing this with all panels. Now fold the top part of the lace panels backwards so they are lying a bit flat. Spray again and use hair dryer to quickly set the lace shape. Place the plate/bowl on a flat surface to completely dry out. See picture above (this is the backside of the bowl showing).

Fill your plate with potpourri, or whatever you want to showcase and place on top of the doily.

Happy stitching!
