Gift Lace 2005 Project Page

Sadia's Gift 2005 ornaments and the motif was stitched using polyester, rayon, metallics and cotton (serger) threads. Regular pre-wound bobbins were used in the bobbin. As the designs are very airy and light, one can use similar embroidery thread in the bobbin. Cotton threads can cause lint build up so it is requested that you clean your machine after each motif has been stitched out. Water soluble vilene was used as the stabilizer. Any water soluble stabilizer may be used. However, if using any of the plastic wash away stabilizers, it is recommended that you use two layers, placed opposite direction to each other in the hoop. Stitching out the ornament and motif designs is very simple. Hoop your water soluble stabilizer and start stitching. Once the design is completed, simply remove the stabilizer from hoop and cut away excess stabilizer from around the motif. Wash and let dry. Here are the instructions for how to create an edging with the single motif design.
Stitch out motifs as many as required. My runner required 12 motifs. Pin the motifs together at points before washing away the stabilizer.
To see the edges, trim the stabilizer close to the edge of one of the motifs.
Pin all the motifs together in the shape you desire. Using a zigzag stitch on your machine and monofilament thread, join the points of the motifs.
Once all the motifs are joined, wash away the stabilizer and lay flat to dry.

And your runner is complete. Use the motif as a coaster, napkin ring etc.

Happy Holidays! Sadia
