Kids in Distress-2007 Quilt Drive
How does on describe love for a child or for that matter love for any child,
whether it is your own or another’s. Children are our future, it it to them that we look towards in carrying on our society, our beliefs and our feelings. Love is one object in our world that has no price tag. It is that love that brought together hundreds of wonderful friends all over the United States in contributing beautiful quilts for Kids in Distress. Kids in Distress is a non-profit organization that takes in hundreds of children that are abused, without home, without love, without any knowledge of the future…and gives them hope and love.
A dear friend, Dianne Pomeroy, has been a sponsor for Kids in Distress for many years. Two years ago I decided to join her efforts in promoting love for these children via quilts. This year, submission of a quilt qualified the donor to a design collection by Santi of Hatched in Africa, Mimi Deck of Daffy Down Dilly Designs and by yours truly. The end result, we were able to contribute 254 beautiful quality quilts
to Kids in Distress. WOW! Just have a look at the pictures that Dianne sent me…they are incredible as are the quilts. I can just imagine a child
being comforted and loved by a hand made quilt that simply says “I love you”. I am uploading only a handful of pictures that Dianne sent me. Her living room and her den were just covered with quilts everywhere.
I cannot even begin to count the number of hours that went into embroidering, quilting and binding these quilts. Thanks to all who contributed and shared their love
with a child who may be better for tomorrow just because someone took the time to reach out and give love.
I want to take this opportunity to say my thanks to all who contributed, and to Dianne, Santi and Mimi. There are no words that can describe all how I feel….just Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Several have already written me asking about next year. At the moment, I am not sure of what others feel like but I think this is a drive that will continue as long as others will contribute. This year, I allocated a handful of collections for friends to select from (please see: http://www.sadiasews.com/kids2007.html ) but I am thinking that I will change it for 2008 to include any collection (excluding all that are introduced in 2008). Friends who want to start thinking please do read this year’s guidelines. I think we will continue with those guidelines. A quilt of love from you for any design collection of your choice…can it be a deal…do join us.
