ASG/Simplicity 2007 Contest

Some while back I had posted about working feverishly in getting my entries for the ASG/Simplicity Annual Contest ready. The ideas that I  had for a long while were completely changed by me at the last minute. The two days will of getting everything together will remain in my memory a long while…including the fact that one needs to be extremely careful when threading a serger when it is turned on and the cutters are on….

The initial presentation was to send them pictures of the finished items. I chose the five piece wardrobe category. And it was quite an ordeal and to think now that I almost didn’t make it….first I slashed my finger on the serger which prevented me from doing a lot of work, then I couldn’t find my ASG membership card….(it definitely is Murphy’s law) but thanks to the excellent staff at ASG that was sent me via email….and that is not all… LOL. Our post asg3office closes at  5 pm with the truck leaving at about 4:45 pm….and with my aching finger I was having tons of trouble getting all the paperwork together…try typing with one hand!  But with dh (what a guy!) helping and the Postal authorities holding off for me…I barely made it with seconds to spare.  Then started the anxious wait to see if I would make it to the finals….

Around the beginning of June I received an email from Simplicity letting me know that my entries had moved onto the final judging and I was to mail them off for final judging. YES! I was extremely excited and spent quite a while in getting everything done just right…checking all seams, loose threads etc… and yes I think that serger of mine is not quite friendly with me…I managed to slash the same finger again…this time requiring stitches. I held off the bleeding by tying a cord around the finger while I finished the last few stitches of hemming etc. LOL!

This morning dh tried to wake me up telling me that Simplicity had called but I guess I was too tired to understand and when I did wake up I couldn’t bring myself to dial the number….wondering whether they are going to thank me for entering the contest or are they going to tell me that I had a place! And YES! The news is that my enteries are the runner up in my category!!!  Am I excited, you bet!

This was my first attempt at making something using patterns and I have to admit it tested my abilities to the utmost. The designs I used are actually licensed to Bullard Designs and have been released by Bobbi Bullard. You can see the designs here:  http://bullarddesigns.com/arabesque/arabesque.html   Although the designs are multi colored, I decided to use only one color throughout. The picture I’ve posted is not really a good one and as soon as I can I will post better pictures of the complete outfit but just to give a bit of a sneak preview. The laces used are from my upcoming Vintage lace collections which will be released at the ASG Convention end of July. And how do I feel…. exhausted but extremely pleased. YAY!!!

Sadia, Double WOW!! Your creativity continues to climb over the top. Congratulations! (now please go buy yourself a new-improved serger that doesn’t eat fingers)!! You need all your fingers to continue all this creativity. Hugs, Lj

I think your outfit is exquisite. I agree with Leah – you need a serger that doesn’t eat fingers. I cannot believe how Murphy’s Law came into play, but I guess when we hurry it happens. The hurried I go the behinder I get.
Congratulations on a job well done.

Sadia, your outfit is awsome! I’m so happy to actually “know” someone that is actually a winner! I sometimes can’t help but wonder about some of the contests we enter.

Way to go!!!

Your outfit is beautiful! It’s good it is red – that way the blood doesn’t show. I do hope your finger is on the mend. It was bad enough that you cut it once, but TWICE? OUCH!

Congratulations on your winning entry. Your work is beautiful as always. I’m so sorry that I won’t be attending the convention. I would love to see your dress in person. Again, congratulations and keep up the good work.

Sadia,
Your work is beautiful! But you deserved to win because you are a beautiful person. You are always lending a hand and giving advice, not to mention everything else you do–you are truly a class act and so talented. Congratulations!

Sadia,

Your outfit is absolutely beautiful! You never cease to amaze me. Just when I think you have created the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, you make something even more beautiful.

Congratulations! You deserved to win.

I hope your finger is on the mend. Please try to find a serger that is not canibalistic!

Hugs, Norma
