More on sewing for children

A few days ago I received an adorable picture of what looked like a knapsack.  carolbag1The email was from my dear friend Carolyn from http://creativeneedlecraft.com  Unknown to me, Carolyn had been working on a special bag/purse for children/youth the minute I had shown  her some of the images from “Lil’ Ballerinas”. She had wanted it to be a pleasant surprise…and it certainly was and still is. Speechless, I urged her to finalize the pattern as it is certainly the most sought after item ever since I introduced the “Lil’ Ballerinas”. I have had numerous emails asking me the pattern for the purse that I had created earlier in my blog. Well folks, I think this is so much better and lovely so here is a bit of a “sneak preview” of it…

As is in all of Carolyn’s patterns, there is always an element of surprise. The first being that of “Oh wow…that was simple” and then next is the look of professionalism. The petite bag is by no  means petite, rather it has a surprise element of the sides opening up to become a larger bag. Moreover, its structure is such that it can appeal balbag1not only to the children… as a knapsack…boys and girls alike…but also teenagers and Moms as well as an ideal bag for carrying baby items.

Urging Carolyn to send me directions and dimensions I experimented in putting it together. First I had to go shopping to purchase some really cute girly fabrics. Polka dots are a big hit at the moment and I found coordinating pink and green polka dot fabric along with…would  you believe it…ribbon to match with the polka dots!!Combined with the embroidery the whole procedure took me about two hours…with lots of time in between for various other tasks as well. All I can say at the end of the day…it is a brilliant pattern and one that I can see getting a lot of usage not to mention ideal gifts for Christmas, birthdays…any days…LOL. Ofcourse one does not have to embroider it, usage of various coordinating prints can also give a personalised  yet cute look.

There really is not much out there for little boys and I can definitely see this carolbag2knapsack being an ideal personalised gift for a little boy…hint..hint…yes there is a little boy’s collection of designs coming sometime soon(I hope).  Here’s a bit of push coming your way Carolyn…hurry up and get this pattern finished….it is adorable and oh so useful!!

Thanks for more darling ideas! I must get that pattern from Carolyn! I love the Balerinas and can’t wait to see what ideas you come up with for boys, as I have 2 grandsons, also
that I am sure would love the napsacks! I can always find ideas for my granddaughters, but not as much for the boys!

Thank you Donna for your comment. Yes the Knapsack pattern is extremely fun and easy and has lots of uses, not just for kids! The boys are in the making and I hope to release soon. Thanks again. Hugs, Sadia
