2007 and Machine Embroidery
Happy New Year to all friends around the world! A new year has started and with it new resolutions, new ideas and new trends. In my parents home, it was a tradition to write down New Year resolutions and put them in a special box which was opened on New Year’s Eve the following year. Lots of laughs and lots of friendly jabs were given when the resolutions were read out. It was a fun family night. I didn’t really carry on the tradition as life seems to be so hectic and fast paced. Seems like we are always multi tasking and getting over one thing while jumping onto the next project/idea. Do I miss the lazy times….most definitely. We rush and rush all the time without stopping to enjoy and relish the project just finished that everything seems to become a blur. I bet you all are wondering…..what does this have to do with Machine Embroidery?? Everything and also something that has been in the back of my mind for a while.
One of my resolutions this year is to take my time in creating a project/idea rather than to rush through it and start another. It will be a major step as I am a workaholic. Another resolution is to carry on the main gist of all my designing to recreate as much of heirloom look as possible into Machine Embroidery designs. My third and last resolution is to create a library of vintage and heirloom items that I have collected over the years. Just having them in boxes is not enough. I think it would be valuable to impart all the information on the items for future generations. Having written down my resolutions on my blogpage it will be interesting to see next year if I was successful.
Speaking of Heirloom embroidery, I am extremely pleased with the Martha Pullen series of Vintage Collections. The three hard cover books with design cds are indeed a valuable asset to anyone in the ME world. The recent addition of Glorious Linens is another great example. Looking through some of the linens and the vintage garments within the books I was pleasantly surprised that I myself own some linens and garments with similar designs. If you have not seen the books, I strongly advice friends to preview them here: http://tinyurl.com/y7j2ym All the books have gorgeous colored photographs of the embroideries and the actual garments/linens that they were copied from.
I encourage all ME friends to make their resolutions on finishing/learning a technique unknown to them and using it throughout the year. Meanwhile, I am having to talk to myself to slow down. With two major shows coming up within two months and several collections to be tested and used in projects, lesson plans to be finalised for the shows, more lessons to be taped for my forum….I think it will be interesting to see how sloooooow I work and all the time enjoying every bit of it.
