Original Sewing and Quilting Expo
November 16, 17 and 18, 2006 marks the dates for the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo. The show has become a favourite not just for quilters but any form of sewing/embroidery as well hosting in various cities throughout the year. The last show this year will be at Kansas City. With less than two weeks left, I’m a bit frazzled not to mention totally swamped with a gazillion things to finish before taking off. I had hoped to have at least the “Baltimore Rose” collection finished with projects long before now but not sure if it is going to happen. I am rather pleased with the “Baltimore Rose” designs as they blend in beautifully with not just for heirloom work but also just about any home decor/garment. The stitches were specially created for the collection and the feel and look is that of hand work. I did manage to finish dgd’s jeans and now am so extremely tempted to finish the wall quilt that I started some while back. The work is completed as far as the embroidery is concerned but the right fabrics have yet to cross my path. And from the looks of my sewing room at present, it is highly impossible that I will find anything…the whole place looks like a definite tornado casualty.
Speaking of “Baltimore Rose”….I was tempted to use the designs in the Vintage Linen II (5×7) collection but the designs are a twist of the actual Baltimore Album quilt blocks that they just didn’t seem to blend with the rest of the collection. As the designs are a combination of the Cabbage rose, I decided to call it the “Baltimore Rose”. The image is from the EQ software of a medallion type wall quilt. The center block consists of six designs (the basket) and three designs make up the border on each side. I’m a bit anxious to finish the wall quilt…oh well, only time will tell if I get it done before my departure.
I’m excited to be attending the Sewing and Quilting Expo. As I will not be teaching any classes this time, I hope to be able to perhaps view some of the others and attend some of the shows. The Show of the Outfits of the Stars from various notable films is definitely a must see on my agenda. And ofcourse the Young Designers’ show is always such an inspiration. Moreover, I’m totally excited as one of the “Stitches” Competition finals is created using my designs. This is a third year running that items using my designs have made it to the finals and I would love to see these items in person….would be great if the item was the Grand prize winner….fingers crossed.
Friends attending the show, my booth along with Carolyn from http://wwwcreativeneedlecraft.com is right at the entrance to the convention area and we hope to have several interesting ideas on not just machine embroidery but also accessories. Be sure to stop by and say hello. Off I go back to my topsy turvy work area.
