Machine Embroidery and Purses
Machine Embroidery is not only for embellishing garments and home decor items, rather the “in” trend is to decorate any and all surfaces especially accessories such as purses.

A dear friend Carolyn Edwards of http://www.creativeneedlecraft.com/ recently introduced the “Hobo” purse which I’m sure is to become a favorite with many. The pattern, called “Carol’s Purse” is simple yet so very elegant that it simply screams coming from the $200 and above boutiques (this can be said of all of Carolyn’s patterns). The simple yet elegant Velvet purse above is just one of the examples of Carolyn’s ingenuity. Using Kanta Laces (thank you Carolyn) she gave the velvet an embossed surface topped with a stitched out lace panel making it as the flap closure. The technique of embossing velvet is quite easy yet the purse with the all over lace pattern burned into the velvet gives it a rather unique yet expensive look. I have to say I had not thought about doing this. However some while back I had tried to use the laces with rainbow paper and embossed regular cotton fabrics.

As the purse uses three panels (two sides and one center) it makes it ideal for one’s imagination to bend it either towards evening or day as can be seen from the faux suede purse on the right- the center panel is an allover embroidered panel using Vintage Linen I designs.

With the holidays upon us the pattern would be ideal to make for every female on your list, yet giving it an individual look simply by changing the middle panel. I can see so many ideas stemming here. Ofcourse, my heart did a triple beat when I saw the gorgeous leather purse that Carolyn had created using the pattern. Machine Embroidery on purses is definitely the fashion statement!
What a good idea so simple a pattern yet oozes class. Many thanks for ideas. Kate in UK
