And another “to do” completed…

Whew! that is all I can say, LOL. The last several days I’ve found myself glued to my chair working on the logos for the American Embroidery Conference 2007 (http://www.braeco.com). The logos 4x4logowere to be made individually for each of the hoop size: 4×4, 5×7 and the 6×10. The 6×10 was easy as I had all the space to create the dogwoods and the wisteria (two flowers specifically asked by Dianne) but the 5×7 and the 4×4 were a bit of a problem. I finally ended up creating the dogwood alone for the 4×4. The 5×7 couldn’t handle three dogwood flowers…(very difficult to imagine only two in any arrangement-remember the Japanese method, always odd numbers) and I wasn’t too sure about placing one so ended up with two dogwood blooms and a bit of wisteria hanging down. The 4×4 logo further presented the problem of dealing with teeny tiny wording….a bit of a tip regarding small writing. Use running stitches to create the lettering, it is much easier and looks just as well as satin stitch.

5x7 logoThe 5×7 logo I had the added burden of finding out if all home embroidery formats could support it. It was the 6×10 that gave me the fits while trying to figure out how to apply to all home embroidery formats as not all machines support the 6×10 hoop size. As it was the 6×10 logo just barely made it inside the 6×10 hoop so I was a bit nervous. I tried every which way to figure out how to get the 6×10 logo within all formats hoop sizes but the difference is quite huge and with banging my head a whole afternoon, I split the design. Splitting the design was not as easy as it may seem but then splitting any design is not easy. One must study the design and find the best possible way to do the split especially if you want the stitch out to be just like the original.

6x10logo

I finally ended up splitting the hanging wisteria in the 6×10 logo and having it stitch out after the dogwoods and the rest of the design was stitched. This way they covered the connectors underneath and I was able to fit the top portion of the design in the hoop. Tedious but satisfactory and I’m glad it is done. Rather pleased with the final designs and hopefully the registrants will be too. As these designs are also used for the Challenge…every Conference has a logo challenge for the registrants to use their imagination in using the logo designs on some item. There have been some extremely amazing entries and I can’t wait to see what friends come up with this time. Another “to do” list item done and now onto finishing another “to do” job on my list…actually this one has been sitting on my desk for the past three months. I thought I was finished….not. Oh well.

Your artistic eye has captured a subtle look yet again!

The 4×4 and 6×10 logos are especially pleasing–I guess I fancy the odd number theory of key design elements, too, in terms of how many dogwood blooms look most pleasing. I can see the dogwood blooms in the 6×10 (even without the wisteria) looking so lovely on many an item. Very pretty!

I’m sure the registrants will just love your designs!

In the NorthEast, many dogwoods I have seen have had pink or even reddish blooms (which species can suvive the cold depends upon the exact microclimatic conditions), so it will be fun to see how the registrants interpret your design in their sew outs.

Thank you Stephanie, I appreciate your comments. The designs were created in such a way that by just changing one color the dogwoods could be of a pinkish hue. Dogwoods are mostly white with a tint of color, either pale yellow or pink. The reddish blooms are a mixed variety but if you look closely they have white with a dark pink running through via veins etc making it look darker than it really is. As I wanted all three designs to be used together if possible it was not feasible to make the dogwoods smaller in the smaller frames as I know friends like to combine the designs. I too am excited and will wait to see how friends use the designs. Every year friends create such amazing entries that I am surprised, that is the most fun part for me. Thanks again, Hugs, Sadia

Your designs are beautiful. Are the big ones un-split. I have a commercial machine and don’t need them split. Do you sell them just in the large form?

Marilyn, thank you for your lovely comment. That is so very sweet of you, thanks.
Penny, thank you for your comment. The designs are unsplit except for one which has been split for the home machines. But if you look, you will see that you get the design in both ways, split and unsplit. I sell them individually as well as a collection here: http://www.sadiasews.com/southerncharm
