Power of One-Machine Embroidery series
Power of One is a series of Machine Embroidery Designs:-
Ever wonder how many machine embroidery designs does it take to embellish a garment, a home decor item etc. The simple answer: One. One single machine embroidery design if well planned can perk up just about anything. But that one must be a specialty and particular design. I can already see some of you frowning…and thinking….”but that hardly makes for any fun”. Ah but it can be fun depending upon how you plan the embroidery.
Take for example a straight border design. Place it at interesting places such as on sleeves, collars, or as a band to accentuate the lapel line and you have created a wonderful one of a kind creation.

The swing jacket above is embellished with one of the designs from Izmir.Or take a simple freestanding lace design and accentuate your garment by tacking same motif over and over.

There are many ways to just take a single design and go the distance with it. The evening dress
above is embellished with a freestanding lace design from Kanta Border Lace III. The evening dress and purse on the right is a single design from Kanta Lace III.
The gypsy skirt set (bottom) came alive with just one motif taken from Farsi II (b). Go the distance by simply printing out one design several times. Cut the paper as close to the design itself then place it on your outfit/home decor. With a paper template you can play around until you are finaly satisfied with the look.

Have fun with just one design to see how far you can go with it. This will not only open up your imagination but also prepare you for creating larger embroideries with several designs put together. Start small and build up.
To be continued….

Stunning outfits. How do you know what to put where? I think that is my biggest problem. I feel too intimidated.

Thank you Kerrie. I appreciate your comment. Well, I have always held that one learns from mistakes and that is how I learned. My very first huge ME project was to embroider on a dress for dd. I had no idea how I was ever going to have the embroidery come out right. Till then all I had ever done was to simply hoop a piece of fabric and stitch away. Later I would trim the fabric and then attach it as an applique. I made so many mistakes but from those mistakes I learned. The first thing I learned was to use the plastic template that came with my machine. That is a lifesaver. They included them for a reason and during that time I learned that the reason is so the embroidery would be positioned correctly. If I had pictures of all the mistakes in my learning process….LOL.
One of the first things I advice everyone on is to print out the actual template using your embroidery software. If you do not have an embroidery software then invest in an editing or download a free software like Wilcom Emb Truesizer. The software can print out the exact template of your embroidery. That template then becomes the blueprint. Pin it to your garment where you want it to be and you have a start. Do visit my website to view some of the Embroidery tutorials which show step by step how to do this. Good luck, HUGS, Sadia
