Test driving Masterworks

Now if I had the $$ I probably will trade in my Generations software which basically is only used to create liquid fills and purchase Masterworks. Yes, I am impressed. It is as close a software to Wilcom and very powerful indeed. At the Babylock site you are able to order a trial CD, however, when I tried it, I was led to the final page saying I will be receiving a Designer’s Gallery CD…..huh!

I did get to test drive the software at the KC meet with John Deer. The software is powerful, with a multitude of programmed fills, outlines, motifs, you name it. And yes it does have liquid fill. Seems like Tacony has a definite winner in this one. Ofcourse it costs about $1500 or thereabouts to purchase (ouch). The one thing that I am not sure about is the tedious method of creating curves. One uses nodes to create objects however, the curve nodes are similar to PED/Palette where they require the bezier curve placed in. Now, I could be wrong and it might be that I just did not see all the features in the short span that I tested it. But if I had to give up Studio to digitize in another software…well, my first choice always would be Wilcom definitely ($18000) which I do NOT see happening in my lifetime…the second choice would be definitely Masterworks.

I have heard that Tacony will do a trade in with your older software. So, if you own Generations, PED/Palette, have a talk with your dealer to find out what trade in value they will give you. I have not talked with my Babylock dealer yet but eventually by the end of summer I will. Too busy at the moment to spend any time with another software. Oh btw, the website to check out Masterworks is:

http://www.designersgallerysoftware.com/products/product.asp?Product_ID=EDG-MW#features

Do get a trial CD, I hope mine is indeed Masterworks and not Designer’s Gallery.

Janet and Tami, from what I understand Babylock will soon be releasing or has released an extensive tutorial on Masterworks. I believe your Babylock dealer should be able to find out details for you. Hope this helps. Hugs, Sadia

Masterworks online training classes are awsome. Go to http://www.SueGB.com and the first is free to see if you like it. They are awsome books that are easy to follow that come as part of your class fee. Check it out.
